Your Breast. Your Option.

Women of any age can have an augmentation, to increase the size or improve the shape of their bust.

Choosing the type of implant that is right for you is a collaborative process between you and your plastic surgeon said, Dr. Garo Kassabian. You will discuss your concerns and desired outcome and he or she will, in turn, make recommendations about what is achievable, how and why.

Dr. Kassabian reviews the types of implants available, such as texture and shape for the most beautiful outcome.

Texture

Pre-filled silicone implants contain a cohesive gel with a strong bond that prevents the silicone from migrating through the body in the rare event the implant leaks or ruptures. There are two types of shells available for these implants: smooth and textured. The latter has been shown in studies to reduce the rate of hardening of tissue around an implant, which the body perceived as a foreign object. The surgical community has differing opinions on the relative benefits of both types varieties. Discuss these with your surgeon.

Saline implants are silicone shells that are filled with saline (salt water) at the time of surgery, and so smaller incisions are required than with pre-filled silicone implants. In standard breast augmentations, the port through which saline is inserted into empty silicone shells until the implant reaches it desired dimensions. The port is then sealed off. When breasts are reconstructed after mastectomy, tissue expanders are used to make room for implants. The volume of saline is adjusted as the tissue expands until the desired size of the new breast is achieved.

SHAPES

Teardrop shaped implants contain more volume at the bottom to mimic the breast’s natural slope. They thus give a natural look but a disadvantage can be that if the implant shifts or rotates it can distort the appearance of the breast.

Round implants provide the upper breast with more volume and are the most widely used in surgery. They provide more fullness and cleavage and won’t rotate.

Injectables and Fillers: Lift MD’s Top 5 Questions

FullSizeRender

Botox. Juvederm. Voluma.  The beauty world’s triad of agelessness. Perhaps you’re considering one or all three? (Yes! You can get all three injected in one day!) Or maybe you have been injected but still have some questions?  The team at Lift MD gathered their top 5 most frequently asked questions regarding injectables and fillers and put together the list below.  We want you to look as good as you feel so always feel free to write to us with any questions about treatments, products and procedures!

  • How long does Botox last?  How long will Juvederm and Voluma last?
    • Keep in mind that everyone’s body metabolizes injectables differently and so some people may not need as many touch-ups as others.  That being said, typically Botox lasts anywhere from 3-4 months while Juvederm can last from 6 months to a year and Voluma up to two years.
  • Am I limited to the amount of activity I can do pre-treatment or post-treatment?
    • There is nothing that you need to do to prepare for your injectable treatment but it is recommended to avoid aspirin and blood thinners as they may cause bruising.  Also, avoiding caffeine may be helpful if it typically makes you feel jittery.    There are some different guidelines when it comes to post-treatment care though.  If you get Botox injected, don’t lie down for 4 hours and avoid any exercise until the following day.  With all injectables, it is recommended to avoid drinking alcohol until the following day as alcohol thins the blood which may lead to some bruising.
  • What exactly is the difference between Voluma and Juvederm?
    • Voluma and Juvederm are both Hyaluronic Acid  fillers, however, the main difference between the two is that Voluma is a much thicker filler.  So Voluma yields the best results when injected in the cheeks and mid-face to restore volume.  While Juvederm is used to fill the lips, nasolabial folds and directly beneath the eyes.
  • How long does it take to see the results for Botox, Juvederm and Voluma?
    • Expect to see the full results of your Botox treatment between 7-10 days while Juvederm and Voluma will take 7 days.
  • Is there anything one can do to make the results last longer?
    • If there is one tip that everyone at Lift MD swears by it’s to drink as much water as possible if you were injected with a filler.  Water bonds with the Hyaluronic Acid and thus keeps the filler plump and helps it last longer.

Kybella: The nonsurgical solution to redefining your chin

The fear of having a double chin is extremely common in both men and women across the globe. This fear becomes or already is a reality for many of us. Thankfully, there is now a safe and effective solution for this common issue. Rediscover your jaw-line with the revolutionary procedure, Kybella.

Kybella is the nonsurgical solution designed to dissolve stubborn under-the-chin fat. It provides maximum results and requires minimal commitment as sessions average between 20 and 30 minutes. Although it varies with each patient, 2-6  sessions scheduled a month apart are suggested for optimum results.

Kybella is the first injectable substance that the FDA has approved to treat under the chin fat. Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a fat-absorbing substance found in our bodies naturally that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

When injected into “under the skin” fat, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The preference for fat cells leaves surrounding tissue largely unaffected. It destroys fat cells under the chin, leaving the skin substantially tighter and the jaw more contoured.

Is Botox the New Answer to Depression?

Image

It seems as though in the near future Botox may be treating more than just fine lines and wrinkles.

According to an interesting new study recently published by the Journal of Psychiatric Research, doctors found that “Botox may help relieve depressive symptoms both as a stand-alone and an adjunctive treatment.” Participants in the study were injected with Botox in the muscles between the eyebrows. When compared to the placebo group, researchers found that the group that received the Botox treatment had up to a 47% decrease in their depressive symptoms after six weeks.

Breast Lifts Outpacing Implants

Screen Shot 2014-04-23 at 5.56.26 PM

Dr. Kassabian is an expert in all plastic surgery but one of his signature procedures is the Invisible Bra Lift.  The Invisible Bra Lift is a procedure that repositions the nipple and tightens the skin as one would with a traditional breast lift but what makes the Invisible Lift different is that already existing breast tissue is used to contour and lift.  According to recent research by the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) the popularity of breast lifts has increased by 70% since 2000.  This means that “breast lifts are outpacing breast implants two-to-one” and a majority of the women opting for the procedure are between 30-54 years old.
