Guide To Injectables: Which Is The Right One For You?

There are many injectables out there that aim to fill lines and prevent wrinkles, caused by aging or overly-expressive facial muscles. But which injectable is right for you? Everyone could use a little help, especially as the years pass by more and more quickly. However, it is crucial to be informed when making a decision about the first thing people notice about you, your face. Both men and women can experience the benefits of non-invasive fillers and injectables, and Dr. Kassabian’s guide below will help you decide the right fit for your face. These are Dr. Kassabian’s favorite, hot on the market, fillers and injectables with minimal side effects and lasting benefits.

Botulinum Toxins:

Botox:

Dr. Kassabian’s motto is “the best plastic surgery goes unnoticed”.  With his expertise, the combination of Botox® and other injectables will address your concerns and give incredibly natural results.

Botox® is a botulinum toxin and is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe lines between the brows, on the forehead, crow’s feet, nasal wrinkles, perioral lines, and lifting of the nose tip. Common but typically unknown uses include injections to combat sweaty scalps, armpits, palms and soles, correct bunny lines on nose, soften lip and chin puckering, and minimize neck bands. It is commonly injected into the masseter muscle to reduce the width of the face and give a more V-shaped look. With no surgery and no recovery time, this is a safe option for first-time cosmetic enhancement users.

Who it’s best For: People with moderate to severe wrinkles. Botox is also used to prevent headaches and TMJ.

Dysport:

Dysport has been used in Europe for the past 18 years and is now available in the U.S. and can be used in the same manner as Botox®. Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, crow’s feet, nasal wrinkles, perioral lines and neck bands in adults. It can also be used to treat headaches and migraines. It is commonly injected into the masseter muscle to reduce the width of the face and give a more V-shaped look. Like Botox®, Dysport is also used for TMJ relief.

Who It’s Best For: Adults with moderate to severe wrinkles and for treatment of migraines and TMJ.

Dysport VS Botox: What is the difference?

From a clinical standpoint, Dysport and Botox® appear to be equivalent in their time of onset, duration of activity, and efficacy. Botox® and Dysport may treat the majority of headaches and can usually allow the patient to go off medication within 3- 6 months. It is safe to say that Dysport and Botox® are more similar than they are different.

Hyaluronic Acid Gels:

Juvederm®:

Juvederm® is a smooth gel containing hyaluronic acid that comes in several viscosities for various wrinkle depths. Use the stronger gel for nasal labial folds, cheek bones and under eye, and the softer gel for your lips. Available with or without Lidocaine, which is a numbing agent used to eliminate discomfort during the injection. Lasts up to one year.

Who It’s Best For: Those seeking to improve the appearance of facial lines or plump the lips, as young as 18 years old.

Restylane:

Restylane is one of the first hyaluronic-acid fillers to hit the market. The particles are medium sized which make this versatile filler, the more you use it, the longer it lasts.  One treatment lasts up to eight months and is best for use for under the eyes, nasolabial folds, lips and medium-depth wrinkles. Also available without or without Lidocaine.

Who It’s Best For: Used mostly for under the eyes, nasolabial folds, lips and medium-depth wrinkles. Lasts about 6 months.

Perlane:

Perlane is essentially a thick form of Restylane and works best for deep wrinkles, general lifting and straightening the jawline. This can also be used to treat facial scars and skin depressions.  The FDA states that Perlane lasts 6 months, but some have experienced the effects for several years in less mobile facial locations. Also available without or without Lidocaine.

Who It’s Best For: Those with more prominent wrinkles, nasolabial folds and lips. Best for problems involving the lower third of the face.

Juvederm VS Restylane VS Perlane:

The difference between these products is simple; particle size. Perlane has larger particles which makes it thicker and better for adding volume to cheeks and filling in the nasolabial folds around the mouth and also lasts longer. Restylane and Juvederm are great for adding volume to the lips and tear troughs around the eyes and filling in nasolabial folds.

COLLAGEN STIMULATORS:

It’s all about volumizing the face. In addition to targeting specific wrinkles and plumping lips, collagen stimulators allow you to achieve a more youthful look by stimulating your body to form collagen, which translates into volume thus improve the appearance of aging skin folds, indented skin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. Collagen stimulators are more popular now than ever before. Here are Dr. Kassabian’s leading favorites:

Sculptra:

Sculptra is a synthetic poly-L-lactic acid which, upon injection, stimulates collagen production. Most effective when injected in several sessions over several months and can last up to 2 years. Sculptra is best for replacing volume over large areas and is also known as the “liquid facelift“.

Who It’s Best For: Those suffering from facial atrophy, the filler of choice for more mature men and women. Used mostly for the cheeks and temples to add volume.  Sculptra is great for those with minimal facial muscle pads and for athletes.

Radiesse:

A collagen based product, uses calcium hydroxyapitate microspheres suspended in a gel that act as a filler while spheres stimulate natural collagen production. Best used for filling facial atrophies of the cheekbones and jaw lines. Also used on hands and for nose reshaping. Radiesse can last up to 1 year.

Who It’s Best For: Used mostly for the cheeks and temples to add volume. Results are immediate.

Latisse® Make A Wish Challenge

Allergan is excited to continue its support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® with the LATISSE® Wishes Challenge campaign. Inspired by the tradition of blowing on an eyelash to make a wish come true, fashion CEO Kathy Ireland, professional ballroom dancer Chelsie Hightower and style guide Bobbie Thomas will each lead teams of LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% users from across the country to help raise more than a quarter of a million dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. To raise the most funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, each team will call upon consumers to participate in the online campaign by joining their team and donating a minimum of $20. In exchange, the first 10,000 campaign participants who make the minimum donation of $20 will receive a LATISSE® free trial certificate, which they can then take to a doctor to determine if LATISSE® is right for them. LATISSE® is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to grow lashes longer, fuller and darker for those with inadequate or not enough lashes.

Those interested in supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and learning more about LATISSE® can participate in the LATISSE® Wishes Challenge by joining a team at www.LatisseWishesChallenge.com. In addition to supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Kathy, Chelsie, Bobbie and their teams are excited to share their experience growing their lashes longer, fuller and darker with LATISSE® on the site over the course of the campaign.
